Toilet makeover: from standard tiles to stylish concrete look with Mineral Paint

Tired of your old toilet room with standard wall tiles? Good news: you don't have to remove the tiles to give your toilet a fresh, modern look. With our Mineral Paint, you can easily create a concrete look or natural look that's right up to date, without any cutting and breaking.

By leveling the tiles first, you create a tight surface, and with our Mineral Paint you give the room a stylish concrete look effect.

Toilet makeover: step by step

Step 1: Cleaning tiles

Start by cleaning the tile wall. For example, use Alabastine Universal Degreaser to remove grease and dirt. Allow the wall to dry completely before continuing.

Step 2: Levelling tiles

Choose from two methods to level your tile wall:

Option A - Levelling with Ardex R1C

Ardex R1C is a renovation plaster that is applied directly over tiles.

Apply a primer first: Alabastine Primer Adhesion - Closed Substrates

First layer: only fill the joints and include some of the tiles (with trowel or spackle knife).

Second layer: apply the plaster over the entire wall and finish tightly with trowel or spackle knife.

After drying, you can always sand the wall a little more so that everything is even and smooth.

Option B - Levelling with Alabastine products.

Use the following steps:

Alabastine Superior Wall Filler to first fill the joints (and include some of the tiles).

Alabastine Primer Adhesion - Closed Substrates to improve adhesion.

Apply Alabastine Moisture Resistant Leveling Compound in two coats over the entire wall. Preferably use a trowel and possibly a straightedge to get a tight, flat surface. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly.

Step 3: Apply primer

Apply one coat of Mineral Primer with a microfiber roller. This coat ensures optimum adhesion between the level wall and the paint layer.

Step 4: Apply Mineral Paint

Apply two coats of Mineral Paint with a block brush.
For a smoother, concrete ciré-like effect without grain: lightly sand the final coat of paint with 220 or 240-grit paper once it is completely dry.

Step 5: Finishing with coating

Finish with our Coating 1K or 2k, applied by roller or block brush. This protective coating makes the surface dirt- and moisture-resistant - ideal for restrooms, kitchens and bathrooms - and ensures that your new wall stays beautiful for years to come.

Primer, Mineral Paint and Coating we sell in one package for 10m2 or 20m2.

The result

Without removing a single tile, you'll give your restroom a totally new look. The Mineral Paint provides a natural, matte concrete texture, and thanks to the coating, the finish remains durable and practical to use.

About Mineral Paint

Mineral Paint is a paint with a fine grain texture and a matte, natural look. The paint is suitable for walls, ceilings and furniture, as well as damp areas such as toilets, bathrooms (not in the shower area) and kitchens. In addition, you can use it on kitchen countertops, stairs, tables and cabinets. In that case, we recommend the Coating 2K for extra protection.

Without a coating, the paint is already slightly removable, but for long-term protection, we always recommend finishing with a coating.
